Rhino ATV Rollovers

Yamaha Rhino ATV Rollover Accident Claims

ATVs are marketed as recreational vehicles that can handle just about any type of terrain. Yet it doesn't take much more than a moderate incline or a bump in the road to make a Yamaha Rhino ATV rollover, putting drivers and passengers at serious risk of injury and death.

The personal injury and products liability attorneys of Skikos, Crawford, Skikos, Joseph & Millican LLP in San Francisco and Cleveland represent clients from across the nation who were injured in Yamaha Rhino ATV rollover accidents.

We also represent the survivors of those who died a wrongful death in an ATV crash.

Design Flaws Lead to Rollovers

The design of the Yamaha Rhino ATV poses a serious risk of rollover. It has a high center of gravity, a narrow track and small wheels - a recipe for rollovers.

The Rhino side-by-side ATV includes seating for a driver and passenger. It is especially prone to rolling over in turns, even at low speeds.

Yamaha Fails To Take Action

Yamaha is aware of the design flaws that result in rollover accidents, but has done little to address the situation. In 2006, Yamaha sent Rhino owners a letter reminding them to wear helmets and seat belts and to keep their hands and legs inside the vehicle if it tipped over.

It offered owners of the vehicles warning stickers, small plastic doors and a bracing bar. These did little to improve the Rhino's safety.

2008 Rhino Recall

The 2008 model has been recalled for a problem with the break caliper that causes a hazard to occupants. However, earlier models continue to endanger lives.

The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission reported that in 2006, all-terrain vehicles were responsible for 555 fatalities and 146,600 injuries severe enough to require treatment at a hospital emergency room. Twenty percent of the ATV fatalities and 30 percent of the injuries were sustained by people 16 years of age or younger.
