Exposure to Asbestos Leads to Mesothelioma Claims
Mesothelioma is a cancer of the lining of the chest or abdomen that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. Similar to mesothelioma, asbestosis is a lung disease that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. Most people who develop mesothelioma and asbestosis were exposed to asbestos through their jobs where they have inhaled asbestos particles or asbestos dust. Others, however, have been exposed to asbestos from working on their vehicles, from making home repairs, and even from cleaning the clothes a person exposed to asbestos.
Since mesothelioma can occur even with a relatively low level of exposure, family members who breathed the fibers or dust in the clothing or hair of workers exposed to asbestos also are at risk. It is estimated that between 1940 and 1979, 27.5 million workers were exposed to asbestos in the United States.
