Digitek: Double Dose Results in Serious Injuries
What Does Digitek Do?
Digitek (digoxin) is a drug that is prescribed to treat heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms, and is made by Actavis Totowa LLC (formerly Amide Pharmaceutical, Inc.). Digitek is distributed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. under the "Bertek" label and by UDL Laboratories under the "UDL" label.
Digitek Recalled For Double Dosage Manufacturing Defect
On April 28, 2008, a Class I nationwide recall was issued on all Digitek tablets after a number of tablets were found to contain double the normal thickness and twice the approved level of digoxin.
The tablets posed a risk of digitalis toxicity, especially in patients with renal failure, which can result in nausea, vomiting, low blood pressure, cardiac instability, bradycardia, heart failure and even death.
